OVERVIEW
GRDI2020 in collaboration with GRL2020 Africa
Co-located with CODATA22
23-24 October, 2010 - SPIER, Stellenbosch, Cape Town, South Africa
This was an invitation-only event, targeting selected experts to address the important issues facing data infrastructures on a global level. Global Research Data Infrastructures of the future are envisioned to be cost-effective, efficient collaborative research environments built on an interoperable & sustainable governance model with user needs woven into their fabric. Such infrastructures need to be strong enablers of new research perspectives available across geographical borders & disciplines with grand global challenges firmly in mind by empowering their user communities as effectively as possible. The aim of this event was to harness the global expertise that exists in the field and to mobilise data infrastructure stakeholder communities to foster a better understanding of the technical and organisational/policy challenges that need addressing to arrive at advanced infrastructures over the next ten years. This two-day workshop, co-hosted by GRDI2020 and GRL2020, provided a platform to identify the direction in which data infrastructures should evolve and the necessary instruments for making this possible.
