Interoperable systems are the key to ensuring that digital libraries continue to
grow in a way that meets the needs of users across the Web. However, interoperability
is a complex, context-specific concept encompassing different levels along a multi-dimensional
spectrum ranging from technical to organisational and policy aspects.DL.org is the
first initiative to investigate interoperability from an innovative, all-encompassing
perspective spanning content, functionality, user, policy, quality and architecture.
To this end, DL.org brings together a team of researchers with a proven track record
that is recognised worldwide for their expertise in the digital library community.
DL.org is a two-year Coordination Action, which started in December 2008, funded
by the European Commission under the 7th Framework Programme ICT Thematic Area "Digital
Libraries and Technology-Enhanced Learning".

SEADATANET has developed an efficient distributed
Marine Data Management Infrastructure for the management of large and diverse sets
of data deriving from in situ and remote observation of the seas and oceans. Professional
data centres, active in data collection, are constituting a Pan-European network
providing on-line integrated databases of standardized quality. The on-line access
to in-situ and remote sensing data, meta-data and products is provided through a
unique portal interconnecting the interoperable node platforms constituted by the
SeaDataNet data centres.
